City to Flush Water Lines in Hartsfield Road Area
Your Own Utilities to begin work on Feb. 20, with minor customer impacts

Beginning Monday, Feb. 20, crews from the City's Underground Utilities will conduct water line cleaning in the Hartsfield Road area of northwest Tallahassee. This routine maintenance, which involves opening fire hydrants to flush lines, may cause temporary minor disruptions in drinking water service to City water customers in the designated area.

Periodic line cleaning is needed to clear naturally occurring minerals, sediments and blockages in the water distribution system. There are no adverse health concerns associated with the operation.

Work will take place weekly from Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., weather permitting, and is expected to be completed within a month. A total of 1,725 City water customers will be affected in the following areas:

Customers in these work areas may experience temporary low water pressure, discolored water or brief water service interruptions during hydrant flushing close to their home. While the cleaning process does not pose any health or safety hazards, Your Own Utilities advises customers to avoid running water in their homes during low water pressure periods to prevent any sediment from entering their home's service lines and plumbing.

After water service returns to normal, running water for a few minutes from an outside hose or bathtub faucet will help clear out any discolored water that may remain in the system.

Throughout the project period, variable message signs will be placed along Hartsfield Road near the daily work zone. Motorists should exercise caution in the vicinity as water from the flushing operation may temporarily cover the roadway. Flagmen will help control traffic flow as necessary.

Crews Testing Water Mains in Woodville Area

Routine Maintenance Might Affect Water Pressure

The City of Tallahassee Underground Utilities will be performing leak-survey maintenance in the Woodville community beginning today. This includes areas served by the City's water system on Woodville Highway south of Capital Circle Southeast. Work will take place today from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and potentially into tomorrow. Crews will be inspecting all City water mains for leaks and potential pressure issues that could impact the 1,866 City water connections along Woodville Highway.

No water loss or health impacts are anticipated, although customers may experience lower than normal water pressure for approximately 30 minutes. Motorists should exercise caution in the vicinity of the work crews, though traffic delays should be minimal. For more information, customers may contact the Water Quality Division at 891.1200.
