Kenneson Survey
During the 1980s, a Mr. Claude Kenneson took upon himself the task of cataloguing and researching burials in Tallahassee's Old City Cemetery. A few years ago, we came across a copy of Mr. Kenneson's research, and would like to share it with you here on our Web site.
For one reason or another, Mr. Kenneson wasn't always able to obtain the same information for a given gravesite as he did for others. In some cases, he started by checking grave markers at the cemetery and then looked elsewhere for more information about the deceased; in others, he began with reports of people's deaths and then visited the cemetery for information from the gravesite itself. In any case, what he produced is a report of some 360 burials with cross-references to other sources -- particularly old newspaper reports, the Florida State Archives, local histories, and so on.

The Survey
Aside from name, date of death, and grave location, Mr. Kenneson also accumulated brief notes on most of the people he included. These cover such topics as maiden name, profession, religion, cause of death, and so on; we've collected all this secondary information into a single "Comments" field.
Although not shown in the Web-based version of the Kenneson data, Mr. Kenneson also cited (by name, date, and sometimes page number) the newspapers or other references he used to compile his data.
- The standard, Web-based version of the data begins with an index. Locate a particular name if you want, and start on the corresponding page; or just start with the first page and read from there using the "VCR-style" buttons at the top of the page.
- We've also got a PDF version of the data. The same fields are available as in the regular Web pages, except of course that it's all in one file rather than spread out. This version of the information also includes a "Dennison Citations" column with the various newspaper and other sources he used to glean his information for that person. (legal-sized, 24 pages, 83KB)
