Winthrop ParkYou've Voted, and your Park of the Quarter is...Winthrop Park!

The City of Tallahassee has over 100 parks and facilities within its inventory. With this many parks and facilities, it's amazing the quality of work that is put into each and every one. Due to the hard work of our employees, Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs implemented a Park / Facility of the Quarter Contest. Our first nominations were received in April and included eight nominations including the Betton Hills Nature Center, Lawrence Gregory Community Center, Lincoln Neighborhood Center, Messer Sports Complex, Sue McCollum Community Center, Tom Brown Park, Wade Wehunt Pool and Winthrop Park. Voting continued through mid-June and we received over 200 votes. In a very close race that stayed really close throughout, our first winner of the Park / Facility of the Quarter contest is...Winthrop Park!

This active recreation site is very inviting, from its alluring athletic fields to its eye-catching rose garden. Originally purchased in the 1940s, Winthrop Park has established partnerships that have contributed to its affluent transformation. Winthrop Park holds a number of athletic events, mainly baseball tournaments; however, its various amenities also add to its engaging persona. With the hard work and dedication of community stakeholders and the Park Division, the park has undergone major changes. Its dramatic conversion has converted to include wall murals, racquetball courts, picnic shelters, accessible sidewalks, lighted tennis courts, playground apparatus, and a relaxing comfort station. Today, Winthrop Park continues to appeal to an array of individuals within the community.

Winthrop Park will receive a plaque to be displayed at the Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Affairs main office as well as a celebration in their honor! Be on the lookout for this special occasion in early July. Congratulations again to Winthrop Park!

Make sure that you stay tuned in for more information on voting for your next Park / Facility of the Quarter competition!
